While reading the god of small things Ammus and Veluthas relationship is coming out more and more into the open. On page 167 when Ammu sees velutha playing with Rahel, she sees how close they interact and how Velutha is almost like a father to her. I think ammu and velutha should come out into the open about there relationship, because you can obviously see that they love each other. There love reminds me of romeo and juliete, because its forbidden but yet they still want it to work.

This is a very good point! It is observed by the reader that Ammu and Velutha want to be with together, and love the twins very much. Yet are separated b/c of Baba, and work. If only they could touch, or be together to share true happiness. The point of Romeo and Juliet seemed very fitting for their love, and it makes a lot of sense for the relationship they put their selves in.

I also agree! I think that you can really see how much they love each-other, and how happy they could be. But I also think that there love is dangerous and because he is an "untouchable" that if people were to find out the could be in trouble, Velutha more that Ammu.

I agree with morgan it can be a dangerous thing because of India's way of life and working. Also the "untouchables" are in a different group than Ammu and her family. Yes he would be a great father, but law stops him from being with her.
In the near future the author explains that Ammu doesn't give up. she wants a good family and a good life. So she keeps Velutha close to her after seeing the parenting he did over her children. It was fine for a little while but then things got a lot worse and then Velutha was banned from the family. You would think that things would get better, but ironically they didn't. What I mean is when Velutha was blamed for the incident with Sophie's death.

Morgan has a good point. But prior to Sophie's death, it seems that Ammu resisted any connection with Velutha besides her own, condemning her children's visit to his residence when she says, "I don't want you going to his house. It will only cause trouble." Perhaps there is a side of Velutha that only Ammu is aware of, and perhaps she is aware of possible incidents surrounding Velutha, and despite how much she loves him, she wants to keep somewhat of a distance.
