In this blog a group reading THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS, by Arundhati Roy, will be discussing reading questions, theories and ideas raised by the text, and we will work to form analysis based on readings, posts and conversations in class and on this blog. Respect for each other and each other's intellect is of the utmost importance to us.

Yes indeed although Sophie is dead, she appears a lot in the story. I think Sophie is the only person that keeps the family together and sometimes their not doing so well. She have a lot of meanings in the story as a dead child.
Sophie Mol is literally The God of Small Things. I feel she symbolizes many things, both love and death. She reminds everyone the beauty of Life. Of how quickly something so precious can be taken away. She loved everything she saw. She enjoyed every moment in India. She loved all the small things. For someone so young, she loved all aspects of it. She to me is The God of Small Things.
The twins said that Sophie Mol had not been in their lives for long enough to really become a person. she died shortly after she met them, and then they can only remember spirit, or her absence and she no longer is a girl they once met but more of a memory.
