I find Ammu a very interesting character. Because she has gone through so much, between her parents and her abusive Ex husband. Her children defiantly feel her emotional turmoil, and deal with her baggage so to speak. Ammu loves her children but i also think she needed to deal with her parents and her husband before having children.

Unfortunately, it's too late for Ammu not to have kids at this point. I do agree, however, that using her corporal punishment to "defend" them from the harsh realities of life makes little to no sense. Mending her relationship with her parents would be a good start, though, but it will be tough.
Although you are right "SERENAH" i believe that since Ammu died the twins have had bigger issues revolving around Baby Kochamma, and respecting the other members of the family. They aren't as dependable as you may think.
