In this blog a group reading THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS, by Arundhati Roy, will be discussing reading questions, theories and ideas raised by the text, and we will work to form analysis based on readings, posts and conversations in class and on this blog. Respect for each other and each other's intellect is of the utmost importance to us.

I also was wondering this. I think that Sophie Mol was a little bemused but probably nonchalant about going somewhere new and meeting all these different people. She probably wasn't expecting anything, or didn't know what to expect, so she wasn't all that weirded out.
i agree and ould add that when Chacko picks her up and requests politely but firmly that he put her diwn. it described him (in Estha's eyes) as deflated somehow. i think the family was hoping for a little more gusto and excitement from her.
