I also was confused by this because your right baby Kochamma loves celebrties and stars, but i think she wa strying to act in control of the situation and seem like the boss.
I think it's because, before the introduction of television into her life she found such things to be silly. Previous to her years of sitting and watching t.v. she loved only two things Father Mulligan and her garden.
